Founded in July of 2000 by company president Cynde Iverson, Rarities developed into a successful business supported by associates in Vietnam. These associates regularly supply the company with up-to-date handmade fashions created by the top tailors and designers in Vietnam.

Cynde, a highly accomplished classical bassoonist, discovered Vietnam in 1999 while on tour with the New York City-based Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. While in Hanoi, Cynde was enchanted by the beauty of the local fashions and purchased several items to wear during concert performances. However, concert wear soon turned to evening wear, which turned into everyday wear.
